UK Steel Enterprise provides £110k funding boost for Sheffield towbar manufacturer

Sheffield-based towbar manufacturer A1 Towing has secured a £110k funding boost from UK Steel Enterprise and the Regional Growth Fund.

The funding will go towards ‘increasing capacity and driving efficiency’, as well as sustaining and expanding its manufacturing and design team.

The business, which operates out of a factory located on Sheffield’s Parkway Industrial Estate, was established by a team of local entrepreneurs who have been involved in the auto industry for more than 15 years.

The financial boost has enabled A1 Towing to purchase and install a robotic welder to meet growing demand from customers across the country. The investment also allows A1 Towing to progress expansion and evolution plans, several of 11 new jobs planned have already been created since the start of the project.

Mark Terry, A1 Towing’s CEO, said: “This is fantastic news for the company which has expanded considerably over the last year thanks to a growing reputation for quality, convenience and value.

“The £110k investment has allowed us to purchase a vital piece of equipment and the necessary staff that will mean we be more efficient in terms of factory space, allowing for other divisions to expand and also to weld more products faster whilst improving quality – a step forward in further growing our customer base and reaching further afield in the UK.”

A1 Towing has a fully fitted workshop in Sheffield and sells its tow bars across the country.

Keith Williams, regional manager for UK Steel Enterprise, added: “A1 Towing is an impressive, independent business – manufacturing a product locally that is now in demand across the company. We were impressed that they wanted to invest in the latest robotic equipment to improve both quality and productivity.

“We can invest up to £1m into growing companies and are keen to find other companies across South Yorkshire and the Humber that can create jobs but need finance to do so.”

UK Steel Enterprise has helped more than 6,600 businesses grow and overall has supported the creation of over 77,000 new jobs in areas affected by changes in the steel industry.
