Arts event blossoms into a two-day extravaganza
An event that spotlights art, craft and design in Newcastle’s Ouseburn Valley returns this spring with a bumper two-day programme.
The Spring Salon Sale is an Ouseburn Open Studio event and for the first time, it will be taking place across two days, between 10am-5pm on 19 and 20 March 2016, in the Ouseburn Valley.
Six venues will be opening their studio doors across the weekend, including The Biscuit Factory, Northern Print, 36 Lime Street, Jim Edwards Studio Gallery, Mushroom Works and Chilli Studios.
The springtime event, now in its third year, is perfect for art buyers and those looking for a cultural day out, with the opportunity to buy direct from makers, watch artist demonstrations or even take part in creative activities.
Some of the weekend’s highlights include: etching demonstrations; an urban landscape exhibition; a fundraising raffle; ceramic map making and a pop up culture market.
Project Director, Rachel Brown says: “We’re really looking forward to this year’s event. It’s so different from the annual November Open Studios which, due to the time of year, has a strong festive feel. By contrast, the spring event is a great opportunity for people to take a little more time out to get involved in a printmaking session; leisurely watch an artist demonstration; or chat with a maker. This laid back feel makes it ideal for the whole family and with lots of activities suitable for children and plenty of eating and drinking options - it’s a great day out.”
