Elvetham Heath school receives £1,000 donation from leading housebuilder

Pupils at a primary school in Elvetham are jumping for joy after receiving a donation from a leading UK housebuilder to upgrade their classrooms.

Elvetham Heath Primary School has been awarded £1,000 thanks to Persimmon Homes Thames Valley’s Community Champions scheme, which seeks to support local groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for the community.

The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.

The school, which has over 600 pupils aged between five and 11, has undertaken a range of fundraising activities including fetes, discos, bingo and quiz nights to raise money for equipment and supplies to benefit its pupils.

Persimmon Homes Thames Valley’s donation is being put towards the replacement of the school’s interactive whiteboard screens.

Megan Robinson, headteacher at Elvetham Health Primary School, said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes Thames Valley for their generous donation.

“Our Parent Teacher Association has worked hard to raise funds for the school, and have done so with great success. They have helped us raise additional funds outside the school budget that have enabled us to purchase new equipment and resources.

“The Community Champions funding will help us to replace the interactive whiteboards with new state-of-the-art interactive screens in the school’s classrooms.”

Rachel Faulkner, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Elvetham Heath Primary School, who have shown fantastic effort in their own fundraising.

“The school works hard to give people in the area the best start in life so it’s our absolute pleasure to be supporting such a worthwhile cause.

“Persimmon Homes Thames Valley has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a tricky task to pick our winners each month.

“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”

Community groups, charities and good causes across the region have benefitted thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
