Gentoo Tolent lands £2.5m Alnwick housing contract
Gateshead-based construction firm Gentoo Tolent has been awarded a £2.5m contract to build 15 new homes in Alnwick, its first major win under its new trading name.
Appointed by Lindisfarne Homes, the development will transform the former Thomas Percy School site, which has stood unused for the past seven years.
Gentoo Tolent is a joint venture partnership, which was formed in April last year when Sunderland-based Gentoo Construction joined forces with Tyneside-headquartered Tolent.
Thomas Percy Drive boasts a mixture of two and three storey houses, with three and four bedrooms, all for sale. 14 of the homes will be built with stone, with the first home to the front of the site built with brick to match the existing street scape in the area just off Blakelaw Road.
Nick Dawe, Director of Lindisfarne Homes, said: “This is our first housing development in Alnwick and we are looking forward to working with Gentoo Tolent to deliver high quality family homes in this desirable town.”
This contract is one of Gentoo Tolent’s first major wins under its new trading name and following its change in ownership, now operating as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tolent Construction Limited.
Paul Webster, Managing Director of Gentoo Tolent, said: “This was a great win for the company as we head into what looks to be a very successful 2016. Lindisfarne Homes is a new client for us and with a great reputation of delivering high quality homes throughout Northumberland, we’re delighted to be working with them on this scheme.”
Newcastle-based Silverstone Building Consultancy has been appointed as Project Manager and will be co-ordinating delivery of the project which is due to finish in November.
Louise Stewart, associate director at Silverstone said: ““We have been in discussions with Lindisfarne Homes regarding this project for some time and we are looking forward to seeing the scheme start to take shape on site over the next few months. Our role will be to manage the works going forwards to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget.”
