Lufthansa Group hits new passenger record at Manchester Airport

German airline operator Lufthansa Group served a record number of passengers at Manchester Airport in 2015 despite a challenging fourth quarter.

The firm’s airlines brought over 982k people to and from the North West last year, an increase of 2.5% against 2014’s figures.

New data has also found that more than half of the passengers leaving Manchester Airport via one of Lufthansa Group’s companies, which includes Lufthansa, Austrian, Brussels and Swiss airlines, connected to other destinations around the world.

The most popular onward destinations included Johannesburg, Beijing and Shanghai.

Christian Schindler, Lufthansa Group’s regional director for the UK, Ireland and Iceland, said of the figures: “Once again Manchester has proved to be a key market within the Lufthansa network.

“Despite a challenging last quarter of the year the demand for our services has continued to grow proving once again that discerning travellers appreciate the way Lufthansa continues to respond to the challenges of the travel market.”
