Pioneering tech firms that promote child safety online to be recognised by Internet Matters

Online safety organisation Internet Matters has announced the launch of a new awards scheme that recognises the most innovative products which promote child safety online.

The Internet Matters Digital Safety Awards are to take place in London on 24 May and is to encourage entrants from a wide range of businesses; from SMEs and startups to key tech players in the industry.

Contenders will be judged by a panel including former Ofsted chair Baroness Sally Morgan, BBC Children’s Director Alice Webb and Secretary of CHIS John Carr.

The foundation’s five main awards categories are:

• Best Product or Service for Parents
• Best Product or Service for Children
• Best Innovation
• Digital Safety Entrepreneur of the Year
• Best Education Product or Service.

Global professional services company EY, who are sponsoring the awards, will provide mentoring to the winner of the Digital Safety Entrepreneur of the Year.

Commenting on the launch of the new awards scheme, Baroness Morgan said: “I am delighted​ to be able to judge this inaugural awards competition. The power of technology can be a real force for good, not least in the education sector where we’re seeing companies large and small creating opportunities not just ​to help children learn but keep them safe online.“​

Carolyn Bunting, General Manager of Internet Matters, added: “We’d encourage both large and small businesses from a broad spectrum of industry to enter.

“We’d like to recognise those who have created products or provide services which truly make a difference in keeping children safe online.”

“The pace of change the internet brings is unprecedented. Brilliant and exciting services are getting introduced all the time and we would like to recognise the efforts that businesses are going to in order to ensure children get a safe and age appropriate internet experience.”

Businesses and individuals have until April 15 to enter, with shortlists announced the week commencing April 25.
