Outstanding results from care home investment programme
An investment programme across care homes in Hull and the East Riding is achieving ‘outstanding’ and ‘good’ results, according to inspection body the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
In a new report for Raleigh Court, Cambridge Street, Hull, CQC inspectors acknowledged the outstanding level of service responsiveness to residents.
CQC praised staff at the 56-bed home for the “range of flexible and creative activities both in-house and with the community to provide meaningful occupation, to stimulate interest and help people feel part of the local community.” Inspectors recognised this resulted in a “positive impact on their wellbeing.”
Overall Raleigh Court received a ‘good’ CQC rating. This is one of several homes operated by Hull-based Hica Group which has just received positive CQC reports. Other homes which have just received ‘good’ ratings, include:
The Hollies, Hessle Tamarix Lodge, in Withernsea Overton House, in Cottingham, Hull
Penni Brown, chief executive of Hull-based Hica Group, said: “We are pleased by these recent reports from the CQC. The hard work of staff combined with our ongoing investment in training, facilities and creative ways of providing care to older people and those with learning difficulties is starting to shine through.
“We’re particularly pleased with the ongoing improvements at Raleigh Court, where our staff were praised for making a real difference to the wellbeing of our residents. Such acknowledgement reflects the Shine philosophy that we’re trying to embed across the organisation.”
Penni also said the findings and positive comments by CQC about the wellbeing of residents reflected the activity programme that staff, in partnership with Oomph! have rolled out across the homes during the last 12 months. Activities have been embraced by residents who have enjoyed noticeable improvements in their quality of life.
“Our care home staff have gone over and above, implementing activities and exercises with real enthusiasm. Their approach, with the coaching from Oomph! has made a real difference to people’s lives,” said Penni.
The Hica Group is a not for profit organisation, which operates a portfolio of 20 residential care homes, five of which are for people with a learning disability, along with two retirement villages. The company also runs a home care service providing approximately 11,500 hours of support and care from four regional offices in the North of England.
