Morecambe FC now up for sale, chairman confirms
Morecambe FC has been put up for sale by bosses in a bid to secure the club’s long-term financial viability.
In a post published today (March 8) on the Shrimps’ website, chairman Peter McGuigan confirmed that Morecambe are now seeking a buyer.
He wrote: “Having been chairman for 16 years, I feel the time is right for a new owner to take the club forward and build on a strong platform that exists today.
“The club moved into a new purpose-built wholly owned stadium in August 2010 and is virtually debt free.”
He continued: “There is an opportunity to develop the ground further with a new office block, as well as a hotel adjacent to the stadium.
“These exciting developments will assist in securing the long-term financial viability of the club.”
The statement said the League Two club are now looking for “expressions of interests” from parties with the financial means to shore up its future.
McGuigan continued: “We will require a complete open book approach from all concerned to ensure the best for the club.
“Any interested parties should contact Nigel Adams at the club who is managing the process on behalf of the board.”
