£120k makeover reaches completion for Newcastle Racecourse gastro-pub

Gastro-pub The Border Minstrel, which stands within Gosforth Park a stone’s throw from Newcastle Racecourse, has undergone a £120k refurbishment.

Seaham-based TCL At Home, which specialises in bespoke residential interiors, completed the revamp, introducing a new ‘shabby-chic’ feel to the grade II listed venue’s interior.

The venue, known locally as ‘the pub in the park’, has preserved its architectural design features from the 1920s era, with new designs now featuring a shabby-chic style including exposed original brick work, natural stone and wooden floors and comfortable farm house style seating.

Paul Rankin, bar and retail manager of Border Minstrel, said: “We are really excited about the new revamp. The Border Minstrel holds so much history and heritage of the racecourse but we have retained the charm and character of the building and updated the feel to offer a relaxed and comfortable setting for guests.

“The gastro-pub now provides a perfect stand-alone dining experience for guests whether they are enjoying the races or just wish to dine out.”

“We’re confident that our customers will be delighted with the refurbishment; it’s still a true local pub, with a strong food and drink offering which compliments the racing schedule throughout the year.”
