Italian restaurant announced for Salford’s Vimto Gardens development

An independent Italian restaurant has been announced as the first tenant at the mixed-use Vimto Gardens development in Salford.

Vero Moderno is set to open in one of the four commercial units on Chapel Street. Owned by local businessman Giuseppe Piccoli, the 1,625 sq ft restaurant will offer eat-in dining and a takeaway service.

Phil Mayall, the development director of English Cities Fund (ECf), the joint venture behind Vimto Gardens, said: “This lease signing marks an exciting phase for the wider Salford Central development.

“Having a restaurant on-site will not only benefit the residents living in the 96 apartments and townhouses, but also the wider community.”

He added: “We’re looking forward to welcoming more businesses to Chapel Street and further enhancing the regeneration of Salford.”

Following the deal, three other commercial units ranging from 1,388 sq ft to 4,208 sq ft remain.

Salford restaurateur Giuseppe commented: “Being a resident of Chapel Street, I’ve witnessed first-hand the incredible makeover it has had in recent years and I’m certain the regeneration will continue to attract many people to the area.

“This is my first business venture – the help and support I’ve received from ECf has been fantastic. After considering a few options, I chose to open my first venture on Chapel Street as it’s an exciting part of the city with a vast customer base.”

He continued: “At Vero Moderno, we will pay particular attention to creating an authentic Italian-style pizza, with the dough being slowly matured for up to 72 hours for an incredible taste.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming local family, students and professionals and building long-standing relationships with them.”

Earlier this year ECf, which represents a collaboration between property firm Muse Developments, financial services giant Legal & General and the Homes and Communities Agency, brought the first homes to market in the latest phase of the scheme.

Known as Timekeepers Square, the 36-property project is due for completion in 2017.
