Seddon begins work on £2.1m south Manchester project

Property developer Seddon and Southway Housing Trust have begun work on a £2.1m project to regenerate the former home of the Ladybarn Social Club in Manchester.

The Beverly Road site, which has lain empty since 2013 when the club moved to its current premises on the corner of Green and Rink Streets, will be transformed into three buildings comprising 18 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom flats.

As part of its work on the new homes, which are being built for affordable rent, Seddon will also build an on-site car park and deliver landscaping.

Seddon’s regional housing director, Duncan Williams, said: “Seddon has a strong track record in delivering quality new build and refurbishment projects for social housing providers, and we are proud to be working with Southway on this vital regeneration scheme.

“This project will offer much needed homes of the right size and at affordable rents in the Ladybarn area.”

Due for completion by December 2016, the project is one of a string of social housing contracts for Seddon in recent times.

Over the past year, the company has delivered £40m in contracts for housing associations in the North West.

Patrick Ross, Southway Housing Trust’s head of business development, said: “The Ladybarn development is part of an expanding and ambitious programme of residential development across South Manchester and the surrounding areas.

“Southway owns and manages almost 6,000 homes in the area and is looking to grow and diversify that stock by developing schemes such as this, increasing the supply of quality homes in South Manchester through developing a range of tenures including flats and houses for affordable or market rental and sale.”

He continued: “Working with Seddon, we are pleased to be providing 26 new affordable homes for rent in an area of shortage. Currently Southway are looking for more sites, properties and development opportunities across the area to enable us to deliver our programme.”
