Ward Recycling Cycles 1000 Miles For Sport Relief
80 charitable members of staff from Ward Recycling have embarked on a mammoth 24-hour spin-a-thon to raise money for Sport Relief.
Three teams, made up of employees from the firm’s Swadlincote and Ilkeston sites, started the spin race at 4pm on March 17 in Ilkeston with a target of reaching 1000 miles within 24 hours.
This is the second year in a row that Ward Recycling employees have taken part in a charity spin-a-thon, last year the business raised £3000 for Comic Relief and the firm wanted to add more competition this year with the enormous distance target.
Melanie Jackson, office manager at Ward Recycling and spin enthusiast said: “This is the second year that we have taken part in a charity spin-a-thon. After the directors decided that they wanted to do something for charity that would involve a large number of employees, this was the idea that we came up with.
“After a very successful event last year, we decided to do the same sort of thing for Sport Relief and this was an even better event as we decided to make it more competitive by adding three teams trying to reach 1000 miles.”
Melanie Jackson and Sophie Ellis were both in charge of organising the charity event after being instructed by directors to coordinate a fundraising event that could include the firm’s many members of staff.
David Ward Junior, director of Ward Recycling said: “It was fantastic to see so many members of the Ward Recycling team taking part in a spin-a-thon again this year to raise even more money for charity. It was a very difficult but enjoyable event and we’re delighted to be able to raise money for such a fantastic cause.”
