Sefton summit success

National innovators and experts including Lord Scriven and Lord Mawson attended a special summit in Sefton on Prevention and Early Intervention.

The summit, took place on March 11, bringing together local business, public, education and community leaders with national experts to consider action to promote resilience across the whole of the borough.

With the support and backing of partners from across Sefton, the exciting event was co-ordinated by Charlotte Bailey, Executive Director at Sefton Council. She said: “Here at Sefton Council we are looking at leading a unique Early Intervention and Prevention offer in the borough. The offer is based on ‘promoting resilience’ rather than traditional demand management methods. The summit is the start of a journey that will see closer working between partners and the community in order to bring about a positive change for the region and our communities.

“We are looking to develop a way of working together that promotes resilience of individuals, communities, businesses, place and environment to enable long-lasting change, growth and public sector reform so that we have vibrant businesses, confident and enabled citizens and great environments that enhance lives and experiences. This is about us all working together to take a proactive approach across Sefton which reduces the cost of crisis and instability.

“We hosted a Summit to bring together leaders from across the Sefton region together to have an action orientated conversation about the borough. The conversations were founded on the principle ‘We can’t make resilience or prevention happen, but we can create the conditions across the borough’. It provided an opportunity to explore prevention and early intervention from different perspectives and the value in a holistic approach that connects citizens, communities, businesses and institutions.

“At Sefton Council we have a commitment to prevention and early Intervention and recognition that over the long term this approach will significantly promote the health, achievement, safety and economic prosperity of our residents. It applies just as much to businesses, environment and places as it does to people – so the more proactive we are and the more resilience we create the more likely we are to see development and growth in our local economy, build on the great natural assets of our environment and coastline and develop places with residents needs and wants firmly in mind.

“This approach we believe can only be achieved if we work together, start to join up our visions for the area and take a constant and proactive approach that builds on strengths, assets, partnerships and opportunities rather than being reactive and focused on managing challenges and problems.”

Cllr Paul Cummins, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member Adult Social Care, added: “This was a great event. Prevention and Early Intervention is at the heart of our vision for the future; we see it as having a constant awareness of, and taking proactive action to, develop the environmental, economic, health and social conditions needed to enable individuals, communities and the borough to be the best they can be.”

The Sefton Summit on ‘Early Intervention and Prevention; Promoting Resilience’ took place on March 11 at Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters. 45 local chief executives and leaders attended the summit and they were be joined by 10 high profile national experts, who had all committed their own time to attending.
