Business leaders quiz Welsh Government candidates at ‘question time’ event

Influential North Wales business figures quizzed a panel of Welsh Government candidates at a joint Institute of Directors (IoD) and CBI event at Glyndwr University.

The ‘question time’ style event, chaired by ITV Wales’ business correspondent Carole Green, allowed the region’s leading firms to query how the Senedd will help businesses post election.

In attendance were North Wales AM’s Mark Isherwood, Rhun ap Iowerth and Aled Roberts. Candidates Sion Jones of Labour, Duncan Rees of the Green party and UKIP representative Michelle Brown, joined them on the panel.

The breakfast forum opened with a question on EU membership, and went onto discuss how education, the economy and healthcare can be improved in Wales.

Questions put to the panel were from prominent North Wales business leaders including Huw Jones from Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK in Ruthin, Matt Kingsley-Williams of Llay-based IT support firm MWL Systems, and founder of Deeside technology company Comtek, Askar Sheibani.

IoD North Wales committee member, and head of digitial at Mold-based Outwrite PR, Anthony Bullick said: “The format allowed for an informative and interesting debate.

“The area’s businesses value the opportunity to meet Welsh Government candidates and highlight the issues that matter to them ahead of the elections in May.

“We’re anticipating a busy period between now and when the ballot boxes open and want to ensure our members’ voices are heard loud and clear.”

The event was run in partnership with CBI Wales, the regional branch of the UK’s biggest private sector employers’ representative body.
