Basingstoke community sports club secures donation
An amateur sports club in Basingstoke has struck lucky after receiving a donation from a leading UK housebuilder.
Basingstoke Strikers Community Amateur Sports Club, who cater for disabled adults or those with special educational needs, has been named a Persimmon Homes Thames Valley Community Champion and received £1,000 through the scheme.
Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions is an ongoing national programme where charities and groups can secure funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. In its first year, Persimmon donated a total of £750,000 nationwide, and it has now been announced that the scheme is to be continued for another year.
Eddie Matthews, coach for the Basingstoke Strikers, said: “We are thrilled by the fantastic news from Persimmon Homes Thames Valley and we thank them so much for the charitable gesture.
“The donation will go towards transportation for the players for up and coming tournaments and it will certainly mean a great deal to them as some of our players rely on our team as it is the only kind of social activity they have.
“We train once a week and the players all work so hard on improving both their football and social skills, showing other clubs what they are capable of.”
Rachel Faulkner, sales director for Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, said: “Community Champions has the sole aim of helping local charities and organisations make a real difference in the neighbourhoods where we build, so we are delighted to announce the Basingstoke Strikers as our latest beneficiary.”
Community groups, charities and good causes across the region have benefitted thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
Persimmon Homes Thames Valley has a range of homes available at its Sherborne Fields development in Basingstoke, including two, three and four bedroom properties.
