Hospital meals service to benefit thanks to housebuilder
A charity that provides meals for hospital patients is set to receive a cash windfall from a leading UK housebuilder’s donation.
Persimmon Homes North London has selected Hospital Kosher Meals Service (HKMS) to receive a £1,000 donation as a part of its Community Champions initiative, which seeks to support local groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for the community.
The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.
HKMS, which was set up in 1968, continues to provide meals for patients in the Greater London area. Kosher food conforms to the regulations of Jewish dietary law - or the kashrut – and the service provides over 180,000 specialist meals annually to more than 100 NHS establishments.
Michael Freedman, chairman at Hospital Kosher Meals Service, said: “We are delighted that Persimmon Homes North London have chosen to support our charity, recognising our input to the community.
“Their generous donation will contribute towards the 180,000 meals distributed annually in hospitals, making sure that our service continues to run smoothly for the patients who rely on it.
“As well as this, we also offer free of charge on-site training to hospital staff, advising them regarding care for Jewish patients.”
HKMS delivers approximately 3,000 frozen meals, soups, desserts and sandwiches weekly from its own purpose-built freezer facility, utilising a refrigerated vehicle to distribute to hospitals.
Greg Kaye, head of sales for Persimmon Homes North London, said: “We are proud to announce Hospital Kosher Meals Service as the latest beneficiaries of our Community Champions scheme.
“Our donation will make sure that many meals are delivered to hospitals in the Greater London area, giving patients the fantastic service they deserve.
“Persimmon Homes North London has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a tricky task to pick our winners each month.
“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
Community groups, charities and good causes across the region have benefitted thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
