Salix Homes passes £13m investment milestone 12 months after launch
Salford-based housing association Salix Homes has invested more than £13m in homes across the city in its first 12 months.
Since its launch as a stand-alone housing association in March 2015, when tenants voted to transfer the ownership of over 8,300 properties from Salford Council to the newly formed Salix Homes, the organisation has spent £13.1m in improvement works.
The investment has included fitting 680 new bathrooms and kitchens, as well as bringing 900 properties up to the Decent Homes standard outlined by the government.
Salix Homes has also carried out 49k repairs, helped tenants into 700 homes and supported 210 people as they entered training programmes or employment.
Salix Homes’ chief executive, Lee Sugden, said: “When our tenants voted to transfer ownership of their homes to us, we promised a bright future for social housing in this great city and we are well on our way to delivering that.
“In just 12 months we have invested more than £13m improving homes, supported more than 200 people into work or training and have even launched our first new-home building project on the Beechfarm estate in Swinton.”
The organisation has a number of investment projects currently underway, including the £7m overhaul of the Magnolia, Mulberry and Sycamore Court tower blocks in the Pendleton regeneration area. Salix Homes has also secured planning consent to deliver 161 new homes in Swinton.
By 2020, the housing association hopes to have invested £75m in improving Salford’s homes and communities.
