Transforming Elm Tree Park from house to home

Following the launch of the second David Wilson Homes development in the sought after area of Molescroft, Beverley, Jackie Summerfield, Managing Director at Show Business Interiors, reveals the inspiration behind the sophisticated look and feel at the development and how you can recreate the look in your own home.

Jackie and her team were tasked with the design of the Gilthorpe show home; a spacious five bed detached home that has been designed with family living in mind. The flow of the living space provided Jackie with the perfect canvas for showcasing a rich mix of colours, with purples, bronzes and coppers all making an appearance throughout the property.

“The Elm Tree Park development features a selection of five bedroom homes in a desirable area of the East Riding, and as such are designed for a variety of living requirements,” explains Jackie, “therefore we knew it was vital that we designed something that would appeal to all ages – from Mum and Dad, to teenagers and young children and everything in between! We agreed it was vital that we mixed the casual and formal aspects of family living, and ensured each member of the family had their own space to escape the hustle and bustle of family life!”

The property boasts a contemporary kitchen with breakfast room. Casually setting the room in cream colours allowed Jackie to create a light and airy living space, which lends itself perfectly to everyday family life. Elsewhere in the property, textured wallpapers and rich colours give an air of modern luxury and opulence to the living areas, perfect for families looking to relax after a long day.

Jackie offers her top tips for creating the same contemporary look in your own home.

Make use of texture

“A cream colour scheme keeps things fresh, but can feel cold if you’re not careful. Make use of textured wallpapers on feature walls and soft feel good fabrics such as velvet and silk to keep warmth in the room. Feed in rich, dark accent colours in purple and bronze to add a luxury feel to the interiors.”

Light it up

“Natural light is all well and good, but when the night sets in, ensure you have a variety of lighting on both the ceiling and the table to create warmth and ambience in the evenings.”

Make use of space

“In a large family home it is vital that each member of the family has their own space to call their own. In the Gilthorpe we created clear boundaries, with an elegant room in a contemporary style designed with a teenage daughter in mind, and a Peter Pan themed bedroom for a younger child. Allow family members to suggest their own ideas for the design of their own space, and take inspiration from this as a starting point.”
