Steel crisis: Union leaders to meet as buyers still not found
Union leaders are set to hold emergency talks in London in an attempt to prevent Tata Steel’s Port Talbot plant from closing, an an effort to safeguard thousands of jobs.
The government has extended its support to find a buyer for the south Wales-based site, with Business Secretary Sajid Javid, who visited the Port last friday, leading the charge.
Writing in the Sunday Times yesterday, he said ‘… as business secretary I have done, am doing and will continue to do everything within my power to save their jobs.’
However, whilst reports are emerging over potential buyer interest, no concrete offers have been made to save the Port as yet.
Tycoon Sanjeev Gupta is rumoured to have held a conversation over a potential deal whilst reports emerged that an investment firm had solid interest in Tata’s Scunthorpe operation.
Notwithstanding, the future and job security remains shrouded in doubt.
