Super Josh charity receives boost from Wealthcare

Staff at Bury-based financial advisory firm Wealthcare have chosen The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity as the firm’s charity of the year for 2016.

Joshua, from Walshaw, Bury, was diagnosed with a brain stem tumour when he was three, and surgery to remove it left him with serious post-operative disabilities.

He and his mum Dawn Fidler launched the charity on his 13th birthday in 2013 to help other families in a similar position.

The youngster, widely known as ‘Super Josh’, died in November 2014 but Dawn has continued the charity’s work with help from relatives and supporters.

It has raised £300,000 since its creation and has helped more than 1,000 families nationwide.

The charity funds respite breaks, holidays, hospital expenses, wheelchairs, counselling, specialist equipment and hospital entertainment packages for youngsters.

Stephen Cainer, joint managing director of Wealthcare, said: “Dawn is an inspiration to everyone and we are full of admiration for her tireless fundraising efforts.

“We wanted to find a great cause in Bury to support, and we hope the money we raise will make a tangible difference to children and families affected by brain tumours.”

Fundraising activities planned by the firm include a charity tuck shop and dress down Fridays, while Darren Madden, an employee benefits executive, will take part in the Great Manchester 10k Run in May.

Wealthcare has set up its own Virgin Money Giving page for the charity.

Dawn said: “It means a lot to receive support from local businesses such as Wealthcare. The staff are really keen to help raise valuable funds, and it’s amazing to have them on board as they are also able to increase awareness and be ambassadors for Josh’s charity.”
