Food operator SSP inks £90m deal to bring Jamie Oliver to major European hub airport
SSP, the London-headquartered branded catering firm, has announced a new £90m deal with Dusseldorf Airport to operate eight food and beverage outlets.
The seven-year contract, revealed today, will see the global food operator bring two Jamie Oliver concepts, Jamie’s Deli and Jamie’s Coffee Van, to the airport which will open between 2017 and 2019.
SSP will also welcome German TV chef Tim Mälzer’s Hausmann’s to the North Rhine-Westphalia airport, along with French patisserie Epi and global chain KFC.
As part of the deal, SSP will also run the airport’s DUS Conference Center, a 3,000 sq m space that currently hosts conferences, seminars and meetings.
Cornelius Everke, SSP DACH and FRABEL Chief Executive Officer said: “SSP has been operating at Düsseldorf Airport for many years, and we are delighted to be building on our relationship with the team here as the airport moves into a new era.
“Our offer has been designed to help Düsseldorf Airport achieve its ambition to be North Rhine-Westphalia’s ‘gateway to the world’. We are certain that this outstanding brand mix will provide a highly engaging experience for passengers at the airport.”
Managing Director of Düsseldorf Airport, Thomas Schnalke, commented: “With SSP as a main food and beverage tenant going forward, we are strengthening our reputation as an airport where passengers can be entertained on their journey.
“The new outlets show once more that guests at Düsseldorf Airport are constantly offered innovative and premium gastronomy experiences.
“The fact that successful brands such as Jamie Oliver will be making their market debut with the brands Jamie’s Deli by Jamie Oliver and Jamie’s Coffee Van here at Düsseldorf Airport, underscores the international relevance which we have beyond the pure aviation business.”
