DayNine Helps Instacart Continue Growth Path with Workday
DayNine Consulting, Inc., a global Workday (NYSE: WDAY) services partner, today announced that Instacart, an on-demand grocery delivery startup valued at $2 billion with a presence in 18 metropolitan areas across the U.S., is driving business value from its deployment of Workday Human Capital Management (HCM), including Workday Payroll.
Workday HCM provides Instacart with a single, unified system that supports a full range of people-based processes and enterprise payroll needs. Instacart’s move to Workday signifies an end to the administrative growing pains inherent in its previously fragmented HR technology infrastructure and will enable the company to make faster decisions, gain operational visibility, prepare for future talent shifts, and effectively scale to meet its growth objectives.
Workday changed the way Instacart does business
The majority of Instacart’s workforce - which is constantly expanding and shifting - is comprised of both full-time employees and contingent workers who serve as personal shoppers in densely populated cities across the U.S.
With rapid growth came disparate data sources and unwieldy administrative processes such as manual workflows and spreadsheet-driven HR reports that could not scale to support future business growth nor meet the needs of a diverse, on-demand workforce.
“It was next-to-impossible for us to piece together even the most basic HR reports before Workday. DayNine has been a great partner in helping us gain maximum value from our new system, and as a result, Workday has changed the way we do business,” said Mathew Caldwell, vice president of HR, Instacart. “We now have real-time, accurate data about our people, our organisational structure, our hiring needs and more. Plus, DayNine met our ambitious project timeline so we could gain immediate value in our investment.”
Instacart simplifies complex payroll requirements
DayNine also facilitated Instacart’s need to build new efficiencies into its payroll process. In addition to the constant hiring, Instacart’s payroll complexities were further compounded by weekly payroll runs, salaried and hourly workers, and personal shopper wages that vary by city. With Workday, Instacart is able to increase transparency and maintain compliance within their payroll systems.
“This project is a testament to our team’s flexibility in a rapidly changing environment, the new norm for business these days,” said Colin Anderson, vice president west and GTM strategy, DayNine. “Instacart literally grew right before our eyes - from about 300 employees at project kick-off in July, to nearly 2,000 by our first go-live 5 months later. We’re pleased to have helped equip Instacart with a powerful HR backbone that scales just as quickly as they do.”
