New route from Humberside to Denmark to support wind power industry

Danish airline SUN-AIR, a franchise partner of British Airways, is set to launch a new route between Humberside and Aalborg and Billund on the 17th April 2016.

The new route is opening in close cooperation with Siemens Wind Power, which will support the wind power industry in the Humberside area and connect two major wind power hubs in the UK and Denmark.

Kristian Tvergaard, SUN-AIR’s commercial director, said: “Our strategy is to offer direct routes in close cooperation with the regional business sector, and we pursue this policy with the opening of the route Humberside – Aalborg - Billund.

“We have worked closely with Siemens Wind Power and Humberside Airport to bring this valuable niche market opportunity to life.”

Ross Dean, Siemens’ commercial director for the Hull project, added: “It was really important for the wellbeing of our people that we had a solution that would minimise the time spent travelling and maximise the time they have at home with their families.

“SUN-AIR has developed this new, direct service which offers the most efficient flight times to suit our shift patterns and training programmes.”

Flights will be operated by a 32-seater Dornier 328 regional jet on Fridays and Sundays. Estimated flying time will be 1h30min.

Mr Tvergaard also commented: “We plan to increase the route schedule and aim to offer at least one more weekly departure during the autumn with the possibility of adding even more weekly departures between the two regions.”

Tickets are on sale from 6th April on ba.com or through all travel agencies.
