New owner for Glasgow furniture restoration franchise

An established furniture restoration and repair company operating across Glasgow is under new ownership after local businessman, Kirk Grannell, completed a deal to purchase the franchise.

Furniture Medic Glasgow, a franchise of ServiceMaster, one of the UK’s longest established franchisors, offers bespoke, residential and commercial furniture restoration services and was launched in 2005. The company works on-site and off-site, using modern techniques, such as dust-free sanding and the use of highly durable, water-based products to enhance the life of furniture. A former board director for Personal Career Solutions and with property development experience, Kirk chose to pursue his passion for restoring property and launch his own furniture repair franchise.

Following major surgery in 2013, Kirk spent a year recovering and became an advocate for the NHS, following exceptional treatment and care from his local NHS Trust. To assist his recovery, Kirk sought financial support through Business Gateway Glasgow, who provided finance to launch a small, part-time business, which helped with physical and mental recovery. Two years on and the Glasgow team has continued to work with Kirk and supported him with the purchase of his latest venture, Furniture Medic Glasgow.

Kirk said: “I wanted to launch my own business doing something that I loved and wanted to offer a service that required skill and quality craftsmanship. Furniture Medic meets all those requirements and will allow me to build a successful business, take on additional staff and provide robust and timely solutions too all furniture and surface repairs. I’m excited for the challenge ahead and look forward to offering a quality service to all of my new customers.”

Furniture Medic is part of the world’s largest furniture restoration company, originally founded in the US in 1992 and is part of franchisor, ServiceMaster in the UK.
