Quick contract win means it's all good for North East construction startup
Construction startup Tri Construction Ltd has entered the North East market at pace, winning a contract to extend the premises of snack manufacturer It’s All Good Ltd.
The new business has been appointed by UK Land Estates to carry out a refurbishment and upgrade to the It’s All Good Ltd factory in Dukesway, Team Valley, Gateshead, home to the Manomasa tortilla chip brand.
The business supplies its tortilla and pitta chips to major UK retailers including M&S, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Tesco.
Phase 1 of the £550k design and build contract has been completed with the warehouse successfully handed over to the client on programme. Phase 2, which involves the redevelopment of the offices, is due for completion at the end of May 2016.
Under the stewardship of its three directors: Graham Urwin, Keith Wigham and Jack Bruce, Tri Construction will be undertaking the role of principal contractor in the commercial, industrial and education construction sectors. This will include all aspects of new build, refurbishment, civil engineering and fit-out projects.
Construction Director, Graham Urwin, said: “It’s been an excellent start to the business and we are delighted to have been asked to work in conjunction with UK Land Estates on our first project.
“We are seeing a growing confidence in the construction sector and local economy and it felt like the right time to start Tri Construction , which could provide a high-quality, professional service, yet with a personal and dedicated approach to each and every client. Our start has been very promising and within the first four months we have almost secured our forecasted turnover for the first year of the business.”
Adrian Bartle, director of UK Land Estates, said: “We needed the scheme carried out to a tight timescale and we felt that Tri Construction had the right skillset to deliver the work. The first section has been delivered on time and our client is delighted.”
Calum Ryder, Managing Director of It’s All Good Ltd, said: “We are pleased that Phase 1 has been completed on time and Tri Construction has been helpful and supportive in managing the construction project in a way that has minimised disruption to our 24hr manufacturing operation.”
The creation of Tri Construction, based in the Queens Park development in the award-winning Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead, is a further sign of the growing confidence in the construction sector and North East economy.
Figures published by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) show the region’s total construction output has risen for the second consecutive year.
The directors have a wealth of experience within the industry and will be directly involved in all projects from tender through to completion. Their extensive portfolio includes working on a number of high-profile projects, both regionally and nationally and within all sectors of construction.
Commercial director, Keith Wigham, said: “With our directors’ close involvement in each and every project from tender through to completion we are able to develop a personal understanding of our clients, their requirements and aspirations. This approach allows us to offer a bespoke service yet maintaining an extremely competitive stance within the marketplace.
“With our extensive experience in this area of construction, we aim to be pivotal in galvanising the design teams, subcontractors and supply chain to ensure each project is carried out safely, within programme, to budget and of the highest quality.”
Director and Project Manager, Jack Bruce, added: “There has been a lot of interest in what we are doing and it has been great to get out and talk to people about potential projects and new opportunities. We are feeling very positive about the year ahead.”
