Mewar Haveli To Build Primary School In Nepal

A popular Indian restaurant in Nottingham has hosted a fine dining charity dinner to raise £1260, which will be used to build a primary school for the victims of the Nepal earthquake.

Mewar Haveli, on Radcliffe Road, played host to 80 guests on April 10 and raised £1260 towards a target of £10,000 that will facilitate the development of a primary school in the Chitwan District.

Mewar Haveli provided a special set menu from which the restaurant donated £15 a head to the fund and shall be hosting a similar event in September before Suraj Pathak, the restaurant’s director, will be visiting the affected areas himself in October to start development plans.

Depending on how much money is raised between now and October, Suraj said that Mewar Haveli will cover the difference that is required to provide enough funds to build the school.

Suraj Pathak, director of Mewar Haveli said: “I would like to thank everyone that came down to Mewar Haveli to help raise some much needed money for the victims of the Nepal earthquake. We wanted to do our small part here at Mewar Haveli but instead of going through a charity, we wanted to make sure that there was evidence of people’s kind generosity.

“My wife Shila and I, shall be visiting the terribly affected area for ten days in October to start development plans to build a new primary school to make sure that the proceeds are given directly to the people that have suffered.”

In April 2015, Nepal suffered a horrendous earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8, which killed over 8,000 people and injured more than 21,000.

This is the second year that Mewar Haveli has hosted a charity event in support of the Nepal earthquake victims. Last year the restaurant managed to raise £4230 which was donated to support victims of the Dhading District.

This event is not the only occasion that the restaurant shall be using its facilities to raise money for charity. Later this month, Mewar Haveli shall be hosting cooking classes in support of the NSPCC.

Suraj added: “We always want and enjoy doing our part to help people in need. The Nepal fundraising events have been very successful and we are delighted to be doing something serious to help.

“We will cover the difference if we cannot raise the total required as we believe this school is a necessity to seriously help the victims of the disaster.”
