Newcastle’s ‘renowned’ retail sector attracts Spanish tailor to setup in the city
Tailor & Co, a chain of shops and franchises specialising in the personalisation and repair of clothes, has chosen Newcastle as the location for its second store in the UK.
The Spanish company plans to open a number of shops in the UK and chose Newcastle following a store opening in Liverpool.
Jordi Vallverdú, director at Tailor & Co, said: “We are delighted to now have our Newcastle store up and running. We have an ambition to expand our business across Europe and identified the UK market as our next step.
“Newcastle has a renowned retail sector and is one of only seven British city centres with a shopper population of over 500,000 making it an easy decision to open our second UK store here.”
Tailor & Co first contacted Invest Newcastle in September 2015 and following the team’s support, which included sourcing a machine test facility for recruitment sessions, the company chose city centre shopping centre, Eldon Square, to locate.
Catherine Walker, inward investment director at Invest Newcastle, said: “The Invest Newcastle team and I would like to welcome Tailor & Co to the city.
“Newcastle has a thriving sector of SMEs with initiatives such as Ignite 100 and Entrepreneurial Spark supporting small businesses located in Newcastle - helping them to grow.”
