Fibrewrap strengthens partnership with Adept to deliver engineering solutions in Scarborough and London

Two Yorkshire businesses are now working to reinforce an iconic Yorkshire bridge and strengthen an 11-storey London building, using carbon fibre technology.

Leeds-based Adept Civil and Structural Consulting Engineers has carried out engineering designs for Fibrwrap UK to strengthen the deck of Scarborough’s Peaseholm Glen Bridge, with more than 900 sq ms of carbon fibre.

Fibrwrap UK, which has regional offices in Leeds and Hull, is a structural strengthening specialist and provides a structural repair service that uses glass and carbon fibre reinforced polymers.

Adept has also designed one of the UK’s biggest ever strengthening projects that uses fibre reinforced polymers, which is on site now.

The project will see Fibrwrap’s technology used to strengthen the floor slabs and shear walls in an 11-storey former office building at Archway, in North London, to enable two extra storeys to be added as the building is converted into luxury residential apartments.

Other work that Adept has recently completed for Fibrwrap include a bear pit at Dudley Zoo, reinforcing floor plates on the maternity ward at Barnsley General Hospital so three brand new birthing pools could be installed, repairing water pipes at E.ON Energy’s power station in North Wales and strengthening floor slabs at Blackburn Cathedral.
