Rocket Centre raise money for colleague battling cancer

The Rocket Centre’s upcoming 6-hour Endurance Race in Peterborough on April 30 will have an extra special meaning as proceeds will go to support a dedicated work colleague who is battling an aggressive form of bone cancer.

When 60-year-old Bob Ashworth, a team member at Rocket Centre’s Training School, was diagnosed with cancer last month, he received a great deal of support from his fellow co-workers. Over the years Bob has devoted hours of time into teaching and giving others the courage to ride a motorcycle, so his team wanted to give something back to this inspirational man.

The Lancashire motorcycle dealership is uniting to offer its support for a man described as a key player at Rocket Centre who from day one has been a real fighter with his attitude to life and dealing with his illness.

On Saturday April 30th, the team of RC employees, Andy Bradley, Robert Reeve and David Hodges along with associates will be competing in a 6-hour Endurance Race in Peterborough on their very own showroom-built Piaggio Zip 50 Scooter!

The aim is to raise money and awareness so that Bob can go on to fund the treatment he needs to overcome his battle with cancer. With the continued financial support, but more importantly, emotional support from his colleagues, Bob says he believes he will make it through this tough time.

“I’ve been touched by the thoughtfulness of the people at Rocket Centre, they have shown so much compassion and understanding towards my illness. I had no idea the lads were going to do this until I questioned the racing scooter in the showroom. Sometimes you need to do something really bold to get your message across and this is a great way to fundraise and really spread the word.”

David Hodges, Sales Executive at Rocket Centre, added: “When it comes to fast-paced thrills and no doubt spills, we’re prepared to give it our all. It’s our way of not only supporting our colleague but also the thousands of other people diagnosed with this terrible disease each year.”
