Thai restaurant blessed ahead of intu Metrocentre opening
The North East’s newest Thai restaurant, Thaikhun, has been given an official blessing by Buddhist monks ahead of its opening tomorrow.
On the 1st April 5 Buddhist monks travelled the length and breadth of the country to carry out the ancient tradition of blessing a new restaurant. Members of staff and the building itself were blessed with holy water, string and sacred chanting, as part of an elaborate religious ceremony that hopes to generate good fortune and prosperity to the establishment.
Ian Leigh, managing director at Thaikhun, said: “Our passion is to share a real taste of Thailand with our customers and the unique religious opening ceremony is our way of acknowledging and celebrating our cultural heritage.”
“We hope that this, as well as the traditional decor and vibrant flavours on the menu, will not only excite the North East’s taste buds, but also ignite our customer’s dreams of exploring new destinations and cultures.”
Located in the new Qube development, Thaikhun, intu Metrocentre will offer its customers traditional street food in an authentic setting. With an open kitchen and Thai chefs, as well as traditional artefacts and decorations sourced from the street markets of Thailand, the restaurant hopes to offer a unique and interactive dining experience that will set it apart from others in the region.
Thaikhun will be serving a varied selection of Thai soups, noodles, curry’s and stir-frys, as well as a selection of exclusive cocktails and beverages. The new eatery will also be hosting a series of promotions and competitions throughout the opening week, including awarding their first lucky customer a free meal.
Thaikhun intu Metrocentre will be the brand’s first restaurant in the North East and its seventh restaurant to open in the UK, with plans for further expansion across the UK throughout 2016.
