Promenade Estates’ £70m Wirral regeneration honoured at awards

The developer’s regeneration of New Brighton was recognised at the Wirral Tourism Awards.

Developer Promenade Estates received a special Wirral Tourism Ambassador Award at the Wirral Tourism Awards (13 April).

The annual event, which celebrates the peninsula’s tourism and hospitality industries that contribute to the £355m tourism economy in Wirral, took place at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton.

The evening culminated with the judges presenting the special award to Promenade Estates in recognition of its £70 million regeneration of New Brighton.

The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Les Rowlands says: “Wirral’s visitor economy is going from strength to strength, despite heavy competition between locations to attract visitors and investment. This annual event celebrates our peninsula’s very best tourism, hospitality and retail industries, which together generate over £355 million into Wirral’s local economy. Our borough now attracts over 7.5 million day and short break visitors to Wirral – particularly to our countryside and coastal attractions – and this success has been achieved through partnership.”

Promenade’s landmark regeneration project involved an investment programme worth over £70m and included the creation of a 66-bed hotel; an independent eight screen cinema; a state of the art children’s play centre, a Morrisons superstore; the rebuild and renovation of the Floral Pavilion Theatre; nationally recognised and award-winning restaurants, bars and cafés and a luxury apartment complex overlooking the waterfront.

In partnership with Wirral Council, Promenade Estates has transformed a former derelict landscape into Marine Point, a bustling leisure space which brings in thousands of visitors every month.

Creating over 1,000 jobs for the local area, the New Brighton resort is back in its place as a significant part of the Wirral tourism economy.

Daniel Hynd, director at Promenade Estates, says: “The Wirral Tourism Awards is a great evening to celebrate the businesses that contribute to tourism in Wirral and to recognise the thriving local hospitality sector.

“We are delighted to receive the Wirral Tourism Ambassador Award, it is a real honour and highlights everything we set out to achieve with this unprecedented project.

“This award strengthens and acknowledges our vision for Marine Point, which was to create a quality year-round destination and have operators who consistently deliver high standards for local visitors and tourists.”

“The transformation of the whole area is outstanding and despite challenges along the way, we’ve worked hard with Wirral Council and other key stakeholders to transform New Brighton into one of the best places in North West to visit and stay.”
