Hoults Yard wins two prizes as RICS awards
A DEVELOPMENT within Tyneside’s ‘business village’ has won two top prizes at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Maling Exchange, a new development at the Hoults Yard studio and office complex near Byker, won both the Commercial Property and Building Conservation categories at the 2016 Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) North East Awards last night.
Maling Exchange was once part of the biggest pottery in the country, employing more than 1,000 people.
The conversion into a bright, airy and innovative new office and studio complex was delivered by Brimms Construction and Xsite Architecture. The Maling Exchange has joined other recent developments on the site – Maling Studios, The Boiler House and The Old Forge.
The RICS judges said the complex had provided inspiring bases for creative industries and had revitalised the area.
Other winners at the awards, held at Newcastle Civic Centre, were Newcastle’s new Crowne Plaza Hotel, The Paise in Hexham and The Curve in Middlesbrough.
