Coventry meeting hall receives housebuilder's donation

An independent community centre in Coventry is a step closer to a new meeting hall after receiving a grant from a leading UK housebuilder.

Persimmon Homes Central has selected Broad Street Meeting Hall to receive £1,000 as a part of its Community Champions scheme, which seeks to support local groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for the community.

The initiative invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made in Coventry or Birmingham each month.

Broad Street Meeting Hall centre provides affordable meeting space for the Foleshill area of Coventry, providing immigration, education, health and spiritual support to its members.

The community group offers support for people of many different nationalities, ages and backgrounds, helping people in the area settle and make friends in Foleshill.

Alan Griffiths, owner of Broad Street Meeting Hall, said: “Our building has come to the end of its useful life and we have reached the final stage of our lottery application for over £800,000 to replace the building and appoint a member of staff.

“They have challenged us to raise 10% of the money from other sources, so we are hugely grateful to Persimmon Homes Central, whose generous donation of £1,000 takes us that one step closer to our fundraising target.”

Amanda Benjamin, sales director for Persimmon Homes Central, said: “We are proud to be supporting this fantastic community group, helping them achieve their fundraising ambitions for a new base in Foleshill.

“Persimmon Homes Central has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a tricky task to pick our winners each month.

“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”

The housebuilder has three developments in Coventry including Paragon Park off Foleshill Road, Weavers Gate off Old Church Road and The Brooks on Holbrooks Way.
