Food operator wins eight-figure contract with Frankfurt Airport

London-headquartered SSP, travel food and drink specialists, have secured a five-year £41m contract with Frankfurt Airport.

As part of the deal, SSP will operate nine bakery and snack outlets at the German airport, on both the landside and airside of the airport’s Terminal 1, which are due to open between 2016 and 2018.

Seven of the nine retail outlets will be new at the airport, including German premium bakery chains Ditsch and Heberer Traditional Bakeries, as well as two outlets of French-inspired brand Le Crobag.

SSP will also continue to operate two bakery chains, which includes bakery Kamps Backstube, already present at the transport hub.

It’s the second deal with a German airport that the group has signed this month, following a seven-year £90m contract with Dusseldorf airport, which will see it running eight food and beverage outlets at the North Rhine-Westphalia airport.

Ute Pohl, Senior Vice President of Airport Retailing at Fraport who operate Frankfurt Airport, commented: “This new venture underscores SSP’s role as a strong partner, which has the capability and knowledge to understand the needs of our customers.

“SSP’s ability to enhance the units with a stronger take away focus, as well as high levels of food service and operational excellence will undoubtedly drive sales in this very busy terminal.”

Cornelius Everke, CEO of SSP DACH and FRABEL, added: “SSP’s well-balanced brand offer, meeting the needs of all relevant customer groups at the terminal, was instrumental in securing the new deal.

“SSP has operated at Frankfurt Airport for almost a decade, and we are delighted to be building on our relationship with the team here. The brand mix we proposed for this initiative was precisely tailored for Frankfurt, and contains an outstanding line-up.”
