Home investment maintains high standards of care

A Hull-based care group has invested in one of its leading homes to support high standards of care for residents.

Alderlea care home, based in Grimsby, has welcomed a new manager following significant investment into new fixtures and fittings as part of the recent development of the home, operated by the Hica Group.

Manager Vicky Blake joins Alderlea with over 20 years of care home management experience. Vicky, 41, from Skegness, said: “I am delighted to be offered the role as care home manager here at Alderlea. There is a fantastic team in place and they all take part in the company-wide Shine philosophy, which encourages kindness and going the extra mile for residents and the wider community.

“I will be encouraging staff to take part in as many external events as possible as I believe integration and involvement in the community has a significant impact on quality of life and the symptoms of dementia.”

Alderlea care home is based on St Thomas Close, Humberston, and has 40 residents and 42 staff. The home also provides respite care for older people who have been discharged from hospital, including assistance with physiotherapy and rehabilitation before they return home.

The Hica Group recently invested in a number of specialist care programmes and facilities to support residents. A number of staff across the company have been trained to deliver ‘Oomph’ wellness scheme sessions, including structured activity and exercise sessions designed to improve the symptoms of dementia. A companywide fundraising scheme also allowed the company to purchase two pop-up reminiscence pods, including a 1950s kitchen and a classic pub, to provide new and effective ways to tackle the symptoms of dementia.

The Hica Group is a not for profit organisation, which operates an established portfolio of 20 residential care homes, 15 of which are for older people and five of which are for people with a learning disability, along with two retirement villages. The company also runs a care at home service providing approximately 11,500 hours of varied levels of support and care from four regional offices in the North of England.
