£50m Baltic tower scheme greenlit following design review

Liverpool developer Elliot Group has today (April 19) secured planning consent for a £50m residential tower within the city’s burgeoning Baltic neighbourhood.

The firm received the go-ahead for the development after carrying out a collaborative design review with consultants from the council’s urban design team and the government’s Historic England heritage organisation.

The docklands scheme, designed by Liverpool architects Falconer Chester Hall, was the subject of a review to minimise its impact on views of the city’s 331-ft Anglican cathedral.

Commenting on the decision, Elliot Group boss Elliot Lawless said: “Credit to Liverpool council. They managed the process in a very consensual way which enabled all parties to derive benefits from it.

“We were put on our mettle but the result is a better scheme for the city.”

He continued: “We’re delighted with the outcome of today’s planning hearing, not just for the consent itself but because it gives us greater clarity with regards to how the council will view possible future proposals from us in Baltic.”

Building firm Newry Construction has been chosen to deliver the scheme. Once complete, the Norfolk Street development will create 253 apartments across two linked blocks comprising 15 and 14 levels.

The site will also house an entrepreneurial hub to provide additional space for the Baltic neighbourhood’s growing startup scene.

Elliot Group is the company behind two other Norfolk Street developments, together totalling 256 homes and 6,000 sq ft of office space.
