Local housebuilder helps Overwater Wheelyboat Project boost facilities

A local charity which provides free scenic boat trips for disabled children and adults, has teamed up with Five star housebuilder, David Wilson Homes (DWH) North West, to improve its facilities in time for the Summer months.

The Overwater Wheelyboat Project in Audlem, Cheshire, successfully applied for funds through DWH North West’s charitable and community scheme, Our Space, Your Place, to purchase and plant new ornamental trees to spruce up the waiting area leading to the marina slipway. Funds secured will also pay for new wheelchair covers to ensure wheelchair users stay warm and dry in all weather conditions.

The Overwater Wheelyboat Project is a non-profit making enterprise run in conjunction with The Wheelyboat Trust to provide boat trips on the Shropshire Union Canal, one of the most scenic canals in the country. The service offers an enriching life experience to disabled and special needs children and adults.

The project is supported by the award winning Overwater Marina in Audlem - Inland Marina of the Year 2015 - which donated a specially built dock and is the operational centre for the Overwater Wheelyboat. Situated in the beautiful Cheshire countryside and with a full range of disabled facilities and on-site cafe, makes the marina the perfect base.

Andrew Taylor, Our Space, Your Place Project Coordinator and Planning Director at DWH North West, comments: “At David Wilson Homes, we are dedicated to giving something back to the communities situated in and around the areas where we build homes. The Overwater Wheelyboat Project is a unique and very valuable facility for disabled people in Cheshire and indeed all over the region, so we are absolutely delighted to be able to support it in this way.”

The housebuilder’s Our Space Your Space scheme offers support to community groups in the region through volunteering time or funding. Applications can be made through its website: www.ourspaceyourplace.co.uk.
