Family support charity receives housebuilder's funding
A family support charity in Maidenhead will be providing more lessons to children thanks to a donation from a leading UK housebuilder.
Persimmon Homes North London has selected Family Friends in Windsor and Maidenhead to receive £1,000 as a part of its Community Champions scheme, which seeks to support local groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for the community.
The initiative lets local groups and charities bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made in the North London region each month.
The charity supported 113 children over a three month period last year, while 101 families attended weekly community engagement groups.
Asma Aziz, fundraising executive at Family Friends in Windsor and Maidenhead, said: “We are delighted to receive this donation from Persimmon Homes North London.
“The money will support children aged eight to 13 who suffer from anxiety. It’s particularly important to tackle anxiety at this early stage, as it can impact on their schooling, as well as family life, self-esteem and participation in social activities.
“We aim to provide opportunities for children to understand how anxiety impacts on behavior, while letting them talk about their feelings and develop coping mechanisms to manage anxiety.”
The charity has been an active fundraiser itself with events including a zumba party in November where more than £1,000 was raised.
Greg Kaye, head of sales for Persimmon Homes North London, said: “Family Friends offers great support for children and families in the area, tackling important issues for people in the Maidenhead and Windsor communities.
“Persimmon Homes North London has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and I would like to take this opportunity to stress that if applicants were unsuccessful last month, they can visit the Persimmon Homes website and try again.”
