Local MP visits much-needed new homes in Seaton Delaval

Ronnie Campbell, MP for Blyth Valley, visited a key development of 190 new family homes at Miller Homes’ Wheatfields development in Seaton Delaval recently.

Just three miles from the Northumberland coastline, on the edge of Seaton Delaval village, Wheatfields is a beautifully landscaped neighbourhood of one, two, three, four and five-bedroom homes in a semi-rural setting within easy commuting range of the whole of Tyneside.

The Miller Homes development consists of 190 units, which comprises 133 private units, 28 affordable homes and 29 discounted sale units, where the initial and all subsequent sale prices are capped, for eligible purchasers, at 80% of the open market value*.

Wheatfields offers a wide variety of different housetypes – 18 in total - ranging from one-bedroom apartments to five-bedroom homes, with prices currently starting from £79,960, or £63,960 for the discounted sale units**. All of the development’s homes will benefit from NHBC’s 10 year Buildmark warranty.

The visit was organised by NHBC to showcase high quality new homes in the North East.

Ronnie Campbell MP said: “I was delighted to visit this excellent housing development in my constituency.

“Over the last five years, there has been the lowest level of home building since the 1920s and home ownership has fallen every year since 2010, declining by more than 200,000. The gap between the number of homes being built and the number of homes people need is unprecedented - over 100,000 each year.

“This fantastic development, which features a selection of high quality affordable homes, will help provide much-needed family homes in Seaton Delaval. We need to keep the pressure on the Government and they need to listen to the widespread concern regarding the housing crisis”.

Geoff Eggington, NHBC Regional Director for the North East, said: “We are delighted to be able to show Mr Campbell this great development, built by an excellent builder which is providing much-needed new family homes in the Blyth Valley.

“As the UK’s leading insurance and warranty provider of new homes, NHBC works closely with housebuilders to support the delivery of high quality homes. We also work with Parliamentarians to develop and promote good housing policy.”

Andrew Somerville, regional sales manager at Miller Homes North East, said: “We are thrilled to have been given the opportunity to welcome Mr Campbell to Wheatfields to give him an insight into how we are responding to the rising demand for much-needed high quality new homes in the North East.

“Location is key which is why Wheatfields is a development we are particularly proud of, as it can be found on the edge of Seaton Delaval village, just a short drive from the stunning Northumberland coastline, offering homebuyers the perfect balance of a home within a semi-rural location which boasts excellent connectivity to the wider region.

“Since it launched in 2014, 76 new homes have been completed at Wheatfields, with the remaining 114 homes taking the development’s total to 190, to be completed over the next two and a half years. We will also be building further new homes at our developments across the region this year, giving potential buyers even more choice of where to put down roots.”

Patrick Arkle, operations director at Miller Homes North East, said: “We put a huge amount of care into the homes we build, creating sustainable communities for a wide range of buyers, from growing families to downsizers, and first time buyers.

“January saw us announce plans to build 300 new homes in the North East throughout 2016 at our active developments as well as at three new developments launching in the region this year, in North Tyneside, Sunderland and Darlington. This investment speaks for itself in terms of our commitment to house building and confidence that the market is continuing to show steady signs of growth.

“Wheatfields specifically has seen two apprenticeships facilitated on site to date and we will continue to support jobs and training in the region by employing at least a further 15 apprentices across our North East developments over the next five years.”
