Soaring start to 2016 as pretax profits jump 21% for Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Airport has enjoyed a strong start to the year, reporting healthy rises in both revenue and pretax profit for the first three months of 2016.

Revenue has risen by 3.2% from £622m up to £642m, whilst pretax profit has increased from £19m by 21% to £23m.

The impressive financials support Heathrow’s service standards recognition, following the airport being named as the ‘Best airport in Western Europe’ by Skytrax for second consecutive year.

A whopping 16.8 million passengers used Heathrow in the period, a rise of 2.6%, as the airport continues to significantly contribute to British exports.

The period also saw airline Garuda Indonesia London operations from Gatwick to Heathrow, another highlight during the period.

John Holland-Kaye, Chief Executive Officer of Heathrow, said: “It’s been a fantastic start to 2016 and Heathrow is performing strongly on all fronts. Our colleagues are delivering excellent value for our passengers - better service at a lower cost.

“At a time of uncertainty about Britain’s place in the world, families and businesses are counting on the Prime Minister to secure Britain’s long term future. An expanded Heathrow will be an economic powerhouse, a global symbol of a confident, outward looking Britain. Let’s make it happen.”
