Carringtons Catering celebrates St George's Day

Carringtons Catering is set to celebrate St George’s Day (April 23) with a charitable culinary offering.

Created by Director and Master Chef of Great Britain Darren Wynn, the Roby Mill based firm will donate a giant commemorative pie to Epsom Street Community Centre in Vauxhall, which is managed by Nugent Care.

Having been appointed as one of the approved caterers of St George’s Hall in the early 1990’s, the aptly named pie will pay homage to the iconic Liverpool landmark’s rich culture and heritage.

Darren said: “As an approved caterer of Liverpool’s renowned St George’s Hall, we wanted to do something truly special to mark the annual occasion by giving something back to the community through our chosen charity, Nugent Care. St George’s Day is a great chance to celebrate our heritage and where better to unveil our pie than at St George’s Hall itself.

“The giant pie will be made up of classic English ingredients such as salmon, haddock and king prawn to name a few. We certainly hope that all those at Epsom Street Community Centre will enjoy the hearty nostalgic flavours.“

With more than 35 years’ experience, Carringtons Catering is an independent first class catering company renowned throughout the North West for its innovative and inventive hospitality solutions. In addition to providing bespoke catering services for private events such as weddings and notable family occasions, the firm delivers a 360 degree corporate hospitality service to meet all business requirements.

Nugent Care, which is celebrating its 135th birthday this month, provides professional and evidence based regulated services to vulnerable people within the community. Nugent Care offers a diverse range of services covering the life span from birth to end of life care.

Director Helen Wynn added: “Here at Carringtons Catering we are extremely passionate about giving something back, which is why our team regularly participates in innovative fundraising activities. In the summer of 2015, we named Nugent Care as our chosen charity of the year for the second time consecutively. As we endeavour to offer our support wherever we can, we recently donated a number of pans of Scouse to Epsom Street Community Centre for Global Scouse Day.

“I myself chair the board of directors for Nugent Social Enterprises CIC, which has opened a social enterprise café, The Courtyard, to help local people with disabilities gain skills for the workplace. It’s certainly rewarding to use our culinary skills for the good of the community.“

General Manager of St George’s Hall Alan Smith said: “St George’s Hall is delighted to continue to celebrate St George’s Day having had the hall reopened on St George’s Day in 2007 by HRH Prince Charles. The themed St George’s pie adds another fantastic dimension to the halls celebrations, which also include a series of Shakespearean plays and performances, starting with Macbeth on April 24.“
