Sanctuary Care opens new £6m Chester facility

Care home operator Sanctuary Care has expanded its North West portfolio with the launch of a new £6m facility in Chester.

Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home, located next to the Countess of Chester Hospital, was officially opened by Lord Mayor Cllr Hugo Deynem and is Sanctuary’s first care operation in the city.

Comprising 74 en-suite bedrooms, the facility will provide residential, nursing and palliative care services, in addition to intermediate care for patients preparing to return home after a hospital stay.

Commenting on the opening, Cllr Deynem said: “I am really impressed with the facilities at Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home, which is a great addition to the local community. It was a pleasure to open the home and meet residents who are already enjoying this wonderful development from Sanctuary.”

The launch marks the latest move in a local investment strategy that will see Sanctuary regenerate Chester’s Blacon Parade and create new residential housing in several parts of the city.

The company’s managing director, Mark McCarthy, said: “I was very proud to show our special guests what is, without doubt, our most luxurious home to date.

“At Sanctuary Care we believe in providing kindness at the heart of our care, so it means so much to me to see that we already have residents happily settled into their new home, being cared for by our dedicated team.”

In addition to its en-suite bedrooms, Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home includes lounges and dining space, a hairdressing and beauty salon, sensory gardens, underfloor heating, Wi-Fi and a cinema room.

Jean Capner, one of the centre’s first residents, was on hand to cut the ribbon with fellow resident Gill Hunt.

Jean commented: “Cutting the ribbon with the Mayor was great fun, it was fantastic to be involved as I’ve been here since week one and I genuinely love living here. I find everything so special; the whole ambience of the place is very good.”
