Local bus service celebrates community funding
A community transport scheme in Shildon has received a welcome fundraising boost.
Shildon Community Bus Group, which provides a social lifeline for people, received £380 from Persimmon Homes Durham as part of the builder’s Community Champions scheme.
Spokesman Ian Meachem said: “As the organisation is entirely run by volunteers we are always looking for ways to fund the service. We can’t thank Persimmon Homes enough for their donation, which will pay the road tax for our two vehicles.
“Around 50 voluntary and community groups rely on our transport. It’s so important for them to get out and about and these funds will help us continue this service.”
Christine Cooper, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Durham, said the Community Champions scheme was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company builds new homes.
She said: “Persimmon is pleased to make this donation to Shildon Community Bus Group. We wish to play our part in supporting the local community and this service provides a vital lifeline for many people in the area.”
The Persimmon Community Champions scheme is a national programme where clubs, groups and good causes can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.
Christine continued: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re now urging people to apply for next month’s allocation by completing a form at www.persimmonhomes.com.”
