Cyber Crime biggest IT issue for Yorkshire businesses
ICT provider Agile Group reveal the biggest IT issue facing North Yorkshire businesses is internet Cyber Crime. 43% of businesses in the region revealed they have already experienced some sort of Cyber Crime issue in 2016.
Cyber Crime is something that has impacted businesses for a number of years in the region but many are reluctant to openly discuss it, fearing it will leave the business more susceptible to attacks.
The cost of Cyber Crime in the UK over the past 24 months has been over £3bn with SME’s increasingly falling for simple attacks into their network.
Steven Cox, Business Development Manager at Agile Group, said “We have an importance to educate businesses in Yorkshire about Cyber Crime and how to protect their business. It’s almost a taboo topic for businesses as they inevitably don’t want to reveal the true financial consequences they have faced as a result of being a target”.
The impact of Cyber Crime could be much more than financially though. A reluctance to embrace new technology and the constant fear of future attacks can have a long term concern on the growth of businesses.
“The last thing we want to see is businesses afraid of technology”, added Steven. “There are a number of simple and effective measures that can be put in place to prevent and minimise Cyber Crime on business”.
Cyber Crime is becoming more sophisticated with businesses and individuals carrying out attacks on a daily basis. Some recent breaches have seen attackers create an internal looking email requesting the deposit of large sums of money into bank accounts.
ICT provider Agile Group are providing business in Yorkshire with complimentary Cyber Crime and security audits with recommendations on how best they should protect their business.
