First Ever Yorkshire Garden Festival opens this Saturday!

Preparations for The Great Yorkshire Garden Festival, the first of its kind in the area, are in full swing before it opens its gates to the public this weekend.

The brainchild of Ian and Martine Ashbridge, who are hosting it at their Heritage Garden Centre near Melton, it has produced some fantastic entries from both schools and community groups from across Hull and East Yorkshire.

The event, which is to run from April 30th until August 29th will celebrate “Nature’s Finest” and the quality of entries has left its organisers truly in awe at the level of talent and creative ability in this part of the UK.

With only a short time until the first round of judging begins, there is a real buzz around the garden centre and that’s not just the bees! The community entries are being created on site every day whereas green fingered pupils from the local area have been busily creating their designs on pallets at their school, to be transported back to the festival showground.

Ian Ashbridge, the festival’s Creative and Landscape Director, just can’t get over how inventive some of the entries have been:

“I wouldn’t know where to start when it comes to explaining how this event has already gone above and beyond our expectations. To look at some of the entries you wouldn’t think we’re only in our first year.

“Landscaping and the passion behind creating bespoke gardens has always been a love of mine. To see the next generation of gardeners and designers tells me we have started something really big. It’s brilliant. Roll on April 30th!”

The Great Yorkshire Garden Festival opens on Saturday 30th April and is open 7 days a week until Monday 29th August 2016, Monday – Saturday 8am to 4.30pm. Sunday 11.00am to 5.00pm.
