A CGI of the £50m scheme

Plans submitted for £50m cinema and restaurant development in Preston

Muse Developments is seeking planning consent for its multi-million pound leisure scheme in the heart of Preston.

The Salford Quays-based urban regeneration company has submitted plans for a £50m project that includes a new 11-screen cinema, seven restaurants, public realm upgrades and a multi-storey car park.

The scheme comes as part of the wider Markets Quarter makeover, which will see the two listed market canopies refurbished and redecorated and a new glazed market hall built.

Leisure operator The Light has been chosen to open the new cinema.

Muse Developments’ regional director, Mike Horner, said: “Submitting the planning application is a significant milestone in realising this important project for Preston.

“It represents the culmination of much hard work alongside the Council to ensure the proposals are of the highest quality and in accordance with the wider plans for a comprehensive and successful regeneration of the markets area.”

Speaking further, Mike said Muse’s proposals offer “a great opportunity” to provide the city with “much-needed leisure facilities”.

He continued: “We’re confident that the proposed scheme, along with a quality cinema operator, will offer something different, bring families back into the city centre, create jobs and become a catalyst for further investment.”
