Ellesmere Port-headquartered EIC brokers £3.2m in energy investment
The Energy Innovation Centre (EIC), a North West-based organisation set up to accelerate the development and deployment of innovative ideas in the energy sector, has reported brokering £3.2m in investments during the 2015/16 year.
The EIC, which is headquartered in Ellesmere Port, confirmed that the total value of deals facilitated since its launch in 2008 now stands at £15.7m.
Over the last 12 months, the EIC saw its global network grow to encompass more than 1,600 companies, including firms based in the US, Canada, Israel, India, South Africa, Brazil and Russia. Additionally, the centre welcomed fellow innovation support organisation Energy Systems Catapult (ESC) on board as a new industry partner.
In 2015/16, the EIC also secured £1.1m in funding to progress Futurewave, a cross-sector collaborative project to create a digital platform for customers seeking home and community energy solutions.
The EIC’s managing director, Denise Massey, said: “The progress that has been achieved by the EIC partnership this year has been significant.
“Strengthening the processes and skills that we have within the team has enabled us to increase the impact of our operational activities.”
She continued: “While the strategic collaborative innovation that we’ve instigated has generated added value for the industry and the regulator, Ofgem, by creating debate and tangible outputs that put customers at the heart of the energy distribution industry.
“The industry can be proud of what it has achieved through our partnership this year. Our performance puts us in a strong position as we move forward with our two-year growth strategy to become a self-sustaining entity.”
