Local school children learn about sustainable housing

School children from Cullingworth Primary School have visited the nearby David Wilson Homes Hewenden Ridge development to learn all about what materials are sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Ten students, from the school’s Year Six class visited the luxurious show homes and discussed ideas about how to make homes eco-friendly and the best materials to use for longevity and sustainability.

After the tour, the children then went back to the sales office where they received a talk on the energy efficiency of new build homes compared to older houses. Research compiled by the developer has previously revealed that new build homes can be up to 55% more energy efficient than a Victorian property, including energy saving features such as the latest insulation, high levels of airtightness and new double glazing.

Children from the school have previously visited the Hewenden Ridge development to help bury a time capsule filled with drawings and information about the local area.

Stacey Berkeley, Sales Manager at Hewenden Ridge, commented:

“It was wonderful to have the children from Cullingworth Primary School visiting our development and learning about the materials used to construct an eco and environmentally friendly home. All the children were very interested and engaged which was great to see. At David Wilson Homes we’re passionate about supporting and nurturing the communities in which we build our developments.”

Kate Sutcliffe, Headteacher at Cullingworth Primary School commented:

“The visit to David Wilson Homes’ Hewenden Ridge development was a fantastic opportunity for the children and greatly enhanced their learning on energy efficiency. We look forward to continuing our relationship with the site, which has already seen us bury a time capsule at the housing development, earlier in the year.”

Situated in an idyllic and peaceful rural area, Hewenden Ridge in Cullingworth is a beautiful development of three and four bedroom homes with prices starting from £296,995. Help to Buy and David Wilson Homes’ innovative part-exchange scheme are both available to buyers, making purchasing their dream home a reality for young professionals and families.
