Durham consultant heads to Mexico to advise global business leaders
Michael Coates, managing director of Durham-based management consultants Protostar Leadership Development, has been invited to give a keynote talk at a conference in Mexico aimed at academics, business leaders and communication professionals from around the world.
With attendees from every continent, Michael has also been asked to speak alongside business leaders from BMW, Goodyear, Continental, Bosch and the Mexican Government as part of a panel discussion on improving communication within global organisations.
This year the annual Global Association For Business Communication conference will be held in San Luis Potosi - a city with which Michael already shares close links as a visiting professor at Tec De Monterrey, one of the leading universities in Mexico.
Michael is also no stranger to being in the limelight there as he was recently interviewed for Mexican Cable TV, giving his views on how the political leaders in Mexico could bring about real change.
At the May conference, however, he will be presenting findings of research he carried out into how employees around the world prefer to communicate their concerns to their managers, either face to face or through an anonymous employee survey.
There were some significant differences in how people from different countries preferred to communicate their views on their job and the company.
Michael commented: “While I am sure global business leaders at the conference will pick up on the differences between British and Mexican employees, the findings also highlight some worrying concerns about how companies, both in the UK and elsewhere, get their employees to voice concerns and we will be using the research to assist our UK clients to communicate more effectively within their organisations.”
