Teesside property developer sweeping the nation with supermarket builds
Teesside-headquartered property developer Jomast Developments has revealed it will be creating five new supermarket stores this year, worth over £14m.
Already completing four developments in 2016, Jomast will soon be building a new Aldi in Washington, a Netto in Nottinghamshire, two new convenience stores and a large Marks & Spencer Foodhall in Northallerton.
The firm says the new stores will open up employment opportunities across England, with the creation of well over 100 new jobs in total.
The 18,546 sq. ft. North East Aldi will appoint 30 full-time staff and host a carpark with 93 spaces. A mixture of 25 full and part-time positions will be available at the 11,250 sq. ft. Netto in Market Warsop, Nottinghamshire which has a carpark with 70 spaces planned.
Adam Hearld, development director at Jomast, said: “We’ve been developing supermarkets for a number of years and as the sector has changed, so has our business.
“We have adapted as customers’ demands have changed, retailers no longer need large format stores so we’ve aligned ourselves with new requirements.
“As a business we’ve adjusted to the market, the discounters are very acquisitive and so too are some of the c-store operators and premium food retailers and we’re pleased to be working with these companies.”
The new Marks & Spencer Jomast is developing in Northallerton, North Yorkshire will provide a larger space that will allow the store to relocate to a larger purpose built store in the centre of the historic market town.
Rob Murray, head of property planning from Marks & Spencer, said: “We’re looking forward to opening our new store in Northallerton and improving the range and services we offer to our local customers.
“The store will also include an M&S café, plus free on-site parking. We’re enjoying working with Jomast on this exciting project that will bring Northallerton the very best of M&S.”
Adam added: “2016 looks set to be a busy and exciting year for us with a host of retail, leisure, residential and comprehensive mixed use schemes under development.”
